We were there last May. The weather was lovely, a bit windy but very clear. While we swam in the hotel pool, it was not quite warm enough for laying poolside all afternoon. It was nice enough for all our other outdoor activities.

I am going to New Mexico in May also. I will be renting a home around the Santa Fe area. What would be some great day trips? I live in Nebraska and want to soak up all the wonderful scenery I can (it is called the "plains" here for a reason!)
Thanks so much! I am excited!

If you're in Santa Fe, you might enjoy Pecos National Monument. It can't be too far away, as I stopped there on bicycle after leaving SF for Las Vegas NM.
Bicycled thru NM in the last 2 weeks of May and weather was great. Plenty warm enough for cycling anyway.

The suggestion to go to Bandalier is a good one. We really enjoyed our visit. One of the trip highlights. We also enjoyed visits to several Pueblos (for pottery). I know many have recommended Madrid for the scene and Turquoise trail for the scenery but we missed both.

May is one of the best months here. I also recommend a hike to Tent Rocks it is between Santa Fe and ABQ. It is a gorgeous hike with very unique rock formations....

We also enjoyed hiking at Bandelier. On our way back to Santa Fe, we stopped in Los Alamos and visited the free Bradbury Science Museum--interesting history of the Manhattan Project and development of the atomic bomb. We then had an early dinner at Gabriel's--good Mexican food--and on our way back.
We enjoyed a hike at Hyde State Park--the Hyde Park Circle Trail--360 degree view of the mountain peaks after a bit of an uphill hike. Tesuque Creek hike was also recommended.

You guys are great--thanks for all the terrific suggestions!
We will stay one night in Albuquerque due to an early flight out the next AM--any suggestions on where to stay? A restaurant not to miss in Albuquerque or Santa Fe too!
Thanks again!

I second Battleship Rock and Jemez Springs. You can hike the trail at Battleship Rock and get up to 3 mountainside warm springs that waterfall into each other. Do a google on "hot springs, New Mexico" for details. With a meal stop in Jemez Springs it's a full day outing from Santa Fe.
