new mexico in march?

I have an opportunity to visit the santa fe area in the beginning of March. I know it's probably not the best time to go but I'm wondering just what to expect in terms of weather and scenery at that time of year. Is that area sort of 'open to visitors' at that time of year...selling wares in the plaza, etc.?

Early spring isn't the best time to visit New Mexico, especially once our winds start up, but if that's the time you have then you will have a good time. It will be cool/cold and probably sunny.

Santa Fe is always open for visitors. There will be vendors under the portal at the Palace of the Governors and plenty of other places to shop.

What are your interests?

Snow is likely to be around and actually, that is better than the alternative, as LeeAnn stated. The winds and the accompanying sand and dust isn't pleasant.

Lots to see and do - museums, galleries, road trips, food, hot springs....

Predicting the weather in Santa Fe is always a crap-shoot. It can be in the 50s and 60s, or the 30s and 40s and it can snow in March. Unless the wind is blowing, if the humidity is low, even at 32, you are fine without a hat and gloves.
Scenery is always spectacular. March 4-12th is SF Restaurant Week so there are some dining bargains to be had. Vendors are on the Plaza, there's lots to see and do. It's always a great time to visit Santa Fe.
Inn on the Alameda offers free parking, daily wine and cheese reception and breakfast in their rate. Check online for best hotel rates in town. Stay somewhere in the downtown area so you can walk everywhere.
