New England visit in November?
Anyone have any suggestions on a place to stay in New England during early November with 2 kids age 14 & 11?
We are just looking for something for a quick weekend getaway not more then a 5 hour drive from NYC
We don't ski so we aren't looking for anything like that just somewhere to have some fun and relax.
We were looking at Newport RI but not sure how much the kids would enjoy the mansion tours and such
Any and all ideas welcome

We were in Newport in April. I think your kids are old enough to enjoy the tours of the mansions. We loved the Cliff Walk and walked on it each day we were there. There are lots of restaurants and shops there also. We stayed at the LaFarge Perry House-it was great. They do allow children there if they are older and well behaved. There were two teens-pre-teens staying there when we were there and they seemed to be having a good time.

At that age, my kids visited Newport and thoroughly enjoyed the Astors' Beechwood, which does living-history tours in which the occupants and staff gossip about each other and share lively tidbits about parties and everyday life during Newport's golden age. They interact with the tour participants (asking them questions about their background and station, so be prepared!) and all in all it's great fun and somehow very educational, especially about class differences.

Mystic Seaport Museum has lots going on all year round. Find a place that has an indoor pool. There is also a great aquarium. The Mashantucket Pequot Native American Museum ( in Foxwoods Casino) is minutes away. You can stop in this area for a night or two and then head on to Newport or Boston. If the weather is nice, you can rent bikes or take walks on the beach. If not, there are many indoor activities.

We just returned from a 3 week New England trip. I loved Newport, yet you only know your kids. I was there in my early 20's for the Americas Cup and I have to say I really appreciated it more in my 50's..
It is a great city and if your kids get tired of the mansions there is lot's of beach area's they may enjoy.
Enjoy

Boston is a great city to visit with your children .. there are lots of museums and historical sites to see depending on your children's interest .. The Aquarium .. MFA .. Musuem of Science (you can check with any of them and see if there are any special programs or exhibits going on during the time of your visit) .. Boston's North End is a fun place to visit with lots of great restaurants and even great pizza or pastry shops .. Try Mike's Pastry or Modern .. I happen to like both .. ! If you go .. visit Paul Revere's house .. Harvard Square in Cambridge would be a fun take in as well .. Rhode Island also a great place to visit .. Newport is fun .. Providence would fun too .. there is the Galleria with a large movie complex ... again wonderful restaurants and shops to enjoy either in or near the Galleria or visit Little Italy with wonderful restaurants as well .. Mystic Seaport .. not terribly far from there .. If you are shoppers .. take in the Clinton Crossing Outlets in Clinton CT ...
You could also visit the Berkshires.. Lee/Lenox/Williamstown/North Adams ..loaded with musuems and absolutely beautiful country to see .. MASS MoCA ..Clark Institute and others ..Norman Rockwell Musuem etc ...
Have a great visit ..
