Need Suggestions - Northeast/Mid-Atlantic Long Weekend
My sister and I would love to take my parents on a long weekend trip to celebrate their 80 birthdays (they were born one month apart). There are a couple of restrictions on our plans:
1. Dates are flexible. Early September would be best, but anytime late summer or early fall would be ok.
2. Due to health restrictions, anywhere in the mountains is out.
3. They don't like to fly any more, so somewhere within a 4-5 hour drive of northern NJ would be best.
4. They can still get around pretty well, but somewhere that requires a lot of walking isn't a good idea.
5. They don't like anything particularly fancy - either food or hotels. My mom is still gushing over a Residence Inn because she got a refrigerator and microwave in her room! $200-$250 is probably a reasonable per night range,
6. A pretty natural setting and not too crowded would be wonderful.
7. Some sort of touristy attraction (a museum, theater, formal garden etc) would also be fun. They don't like casinos.
I've gone through tour books and have looked at places on the Maryland Shore, or up by Mystic, CTbut I can't decide on anything. Ideally, I'd like to come up with two or three possible trips, and let them decide. Any suggestions?

I would suggest Newport RI. Since it would be off-season, I would think you could find reasonable rates. There's plenty to do and Providence is just a 30 minute drive if you want to head there for an evening for dinner, etc.
