Need suggestions for weekend away from Chicago
Will be in Chicago in middle of June. Visiting daughter who will have just moved there. There will be 3 women. We want to go away for the weekend. A 2-3 hours drive away from Chicago. One girl is 21, one is 53 and one is 83. We like small towns, cute shops and restaurants. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Well if you head west, Galena seems perfect.
If you head north, Lake Geneva could work, but might be crowded.
If you head east, Amish Country in Indiana, which to me sounds super-boring, but might be what you're looking for.
And if you head south...well I'm not sure what there is to see that way, but the fun-filled towns of Peoria and Kankakee are located southwest and south of Chi-town

Cedarburg, WI which is about a 2 plus hour drive from Chicago. Lots of small shops and a very quaint small town. We stayed at the Washington House Inn for 2 nights in the 90's as part of a Chicago visit, and really enjoyed ourselves. I think it's a good choice for all your ages. http://www.cedarburg.org/content/blogcategory/50/112/
