Need suggestions for SC coast family vacation
Looking for suggestions on where to stay. We're looking for a ocean front rental on the SC coast this summer with 2 or more bedrooms and have budgeted $2000 for lodging (including all the fees/taxes). We have 2 little kids and MAY take our small dog (?). We've stayed inland at Kiawah/Seabrook and loved being able to rent bikes and ride on the bike trails, but being inland we missed hearing/seeing the ocean... and not sure you can stay there for our budget. We love getting take-out, which was another thing you can't do so easily on Kiawah, but also like to cooking local seafood ourselves.
We prefer the less crowded to busy and houses/villas over large complexes. We're open to pretty much any of the SC coast -- just want the beach, the view and somewhat on a budget. Any suggestions?

You are going to have a problam staying on the beach with a pet during the summer. Decide first if you are or are not bringing the dog. If you are, I'd start with vrbo.com to see if you are going to be able to find anything. I don't know of a hotel/ condo on the beach that rents pet-friendly rooms during the summer.

Try Edisto Beach on Edisto Island. It is a 1 hour drive south of Charleston and is really geared to family vacations. There are many house rentals on Edisto in all price ranges and there is a long beach. Even staying a block or 2 off the beach is fine and less costly, if that is a consideration. There are numerous beach paths to the beach.
Edisto Island is very picturesque and not as developed as the islands closer to Charleston. No high-rise hotels. I lived there for several years and still miss it. We used to ride our bikes twice every day just for the sheer joy of seeing the beautiful island and the birds - great bird life on Edisto at all times of year.
Things to do other than enjoy the beach: There is an extensive bike path and bike rentals (many of the rental houses provide bikes), boat trips to nearby islands from the Edisto Marina, day trips into Charleston or down to Beaufort, deep-sea fishing expeditions from the marina.
Definitely look into renting a place on Edisto.
