If you head to the panhandle on your postponed trip, go through Lubbock & check out the windmill museum. It will set the scene for that region nicely. There's also a ranch museum connected with Tx Tech. Near Palo Duro Canyon, in the town called Canyon, there is a great museum on WTAMU's campus. It is an indoor museum, one big building (the others are both collections of buildings you go in & out of). It is 2+ hrs between Canyon & Lubbock. The outdoor drama in the canyon is fun. We loved hiking and biking the canyon when we lived out that way. You might want to head N to Colorado or W to NM for part of your trip, or just enjoy Palo Duro. If you want to swim, the mini waterpark inside the rec building at WTAMU is your best bet. There's. lap pool there too. In Amarillo, Don Harrington Discovery (science) center is wonderful for kids of any age--you could spend a day there and at the rk adjacent to it.
