Need help w/decision: Grand Champions or Hale Ono Loa

I've found two affordable/budget options for our trip to Maui in October. One is a studio ($89/night)w/no view/lanai at the Grand Champions and the other is a 1 bedroom ($109/night) with a wonderful view, but it's at the Hale Ono Loa. Any recommendations one way or the other? My boyfriend and I are hoping to not only explore the beaches and natural beauty of the island, but also have a romantic time as well. Thanks for all of your help!

The ones you mentioned are in 2 different areas of Maui. Grand Champions is in Wailea. I think you need to first decide where in Maui you want to stay and then look for a place. Have you tried vrbo.com? October is not a busy time and you should have plenty of choices in your price range...not just 2.
Good luck

for some reason, my reply keeps disappearing! I found both of these condos on vrbo. Our budget is max $115/night, and to be honest, these were the two "most decent" that we found that are still available. We'd like to be w/in walkable distance of a (nice) beach, and kitchen facilities are a plus to save on costs.

Having stayed at Grand Champions I would ask the renter how far they are from Ulua or Mokapu Beach. When we stayed at G.C., it was too far to walk to them carrying beach chairs etc., and we drove and parked at the nearby limited parking instead.

Hale Ona Loa is definitely closer to the ocean than G.C., but don't know how much beach there is or how swimmable it is, though looks great for whale watching if you're going in winter months.
