Need help on maui accomodations

Message: We are currently booked into an ocean view club level room at the Four Seasons Maui for our honeymoon in October, but we have just discovered that construction will be going on during that time.

After calling the hotel, they told us that the construction will be going on seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and that it can be heard poolside. They recommended that we utilize the beach, but I'm pretty irate with the fact that they are doing this in the middle of their high season.

We are deciding on cancelling our reservation and booking another hotel. Can anyone on this board recommend other accomodations similar to the Four Seasons? We want a nice ocean view, superb service, beautiful surroundings, and very few children as possible (none would be best).

Thanks

Congrats on your upcoming nuptials. I've stayed at the Maui Westin, but wasn't all that impressed. They've since renovated, but the pool was way too crowded for my taste. I've been told that the Renaissance is excellent. You can book cabana suite right along the beach which I'm told is out of this world. They are owned, I believe, my Marriott so you can redeem/earn points. Friends have also told us that the Kapalua Bay Hotel is also very nice. The pictures I've seen are beautiful. They were recently purchased by Starwood so you can redeem/earn points. Good luck on your search.

I posted on the 4S construction post but have some advice per friends who go every year (they always do the 4S)...

If you have to do Maui I would switch to the Kea Lani (nice grounds and they prefer the restaurants there to the 4S). The Grand Wialeah (sp?) is too big and hosts the largest conventions (they all host some, but the GW has the largest capacity). If you stay at the 4S when you are this upset about it you are going to be focused on every little thing that goes wrong (not criticizing, just that's how most people, myself included, are when you feel somewhat mislead from the start).

If you want 4S service then switch to Kauai. People can say all they want about good service at the other properties, but I've found none match 4S's consistency.

Think both are great islands and you can't go wrong with either choice.

PS The Grand Wialeah has a better spa but my friends always stay at the 4S and use the Grand Wialeah spa for treatments.

I cannot comment on any of the other hotels, but we stayed at the Ritz Carlton in Maui and it was gorgeous. Absolutely gorgeous--beautiful antiques, fabulous lobby, pools, etc. I remember being amazed that there were so many children there--doesn't matter what resort it is. I was just amazed people could afford to fly all their children to Hawaii and stay in a place like that. We have children now and loud, small children don't bother me any more.
