Have a 5 day trip to take on Cape Cod. Thought about splitting trip between Provincetown area and Hyannis. Looking for accommodations that are family friendly and have activities for kids (age 5). Any hotel/resort suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Traveling in late June, but Sun. to Fri. - so hopefully there is still some availability. Thanks.

The week before and after the 4th of July will be hard to book in P'town. Virtually all rentals will require 1 week rentals and many require 2 weeks. High season means a very gay street scene which may or may not be something you will enjoy. But given you are traveling with kids including a 5 year old, you may want to skip P'town that week.

It's your call of course.

Frankly I'd go to Provincetown, which is gay, and colorful, and interesting, and skip Hyannis, which has got to be the least charming, tackiest, town on the cape. Hyannis is great if you like motels and tourist shlock, but regrettable otherwise.

Another P-Town fan here.

Chatham is our favorite town on the Cape. Hyannis is such a short drived (along with all the rest of the Cape) that you really don't need to split up your stay.

For sure, you'll find same sex couples all about Provincetown. Nearly everyone, it seems, has a fabulous purebred dog with them, too.

Like the person who likes Chatham, I would try to find someplace between two - Wellfleet, Easton, Dennis area. However, this area does not have usual resorts/hotels - is a somewhat less developed area of Cape. In my opinion it has best beaches on Cape but also enough honky-tonk stuff (mini-golf, etc) for kids. Provincetown would be a fun day trip from there.

I love Ptown! But have you ever seen the look of horror on people who had no idea what they were in store for? It's funny, but sad. They spend tons of time and money and are not comfortable in their environ. Just wanted to check that ccc understood, but ccc doesn't seem to check back into threads? Are you still searching the Cape ccc?

Yep. Watched a tour bus unload and all were seniors. I don't think the tour director warned them...or the warning wasn't enough!

In fact, nothing could be further from the truth. On any given day, there are far more families visiting Provincetown than any other group.

My name is gyppielou. I have visited P/town 30 of my 40 years. I would say that about half my real true friends are gay. Some are married, some have had children. Of those, many find P'town to be too gay during high season.

Why GENE would you attack anyone on this thread or board? Check ccc's record and you will see they never return to their post. I hope they will this time.

He's got to be kidding. ccc wants to spend 1/2 of a 5 day vacation in P'town? There's no way...well, at least in my experience. Most rentals require a full week and some require two weeks. I know. I've rented often and checked out for this year months ago.

There is NO 4th of July parade like a P'town 4th of July parade. I love high season - but one SHOULD have a heads-up that you're very likely to be handed a flyer in the middle of the day by a couple of very handsome 6'+ tall "women" in red sequin dresses, blonde bouffant wigs and stiletto heels. If that is what ccc is looking for when he/she described "family friendly" - well, then as I said before "It's your call".

The rangers at Herring Cove beach do a great job directing families to the right and "families" to the left.

I agree with Gene that P'town is a great place to visit no matter what one's orientation. But, P'town in high season is different from P'town a few weeks (or months) before or after.

I think starr and gyppie are right on. They're not slamming anybody. Provincetown is a great place to visit. My parents and I took a whale watch from there. But I think it is smart to be aware of what you might encounter as you would any place you plan to visit.

Chatham is another favorite of mine. The seal cruise over to Monomoy Island would be a fun activity for the kids.

I love P'town. Biking the dunes in the fall is one of my favorite things to do and this southern gal just loves the beaches in the NE - warm from sunshine but not sweating all day like in the south.

But, first of all, a warning to ccc that a partial week rental may be hard to get that week is straightforward advice. And a heads-up that certain weeks or weekends in P'town (or NO or Disney World or Pensacola) is not being homophobic. It's letting someone who identified themselves as looking forward to "family friendly" know that the "colorful" scene will be ramped up several notches at that time.

How in the world Gene thinks that is homophobic is beyond me.

We stayed for a few weeks in Eastham in a wonderful shingle cottage with roses growing all over the place , sort of our Enchanted Cottage that year..with our 8 year old son.
We were all over the Cape and visited friends who have a summer home in Provincetown..Your advice was perfectly on par with what our friends told us.
