I would see if you can find anything out of Las Vegas.

You haven't said what time of year you are going, have you?

Hi MLGB, we are looking at April and have greatly reduced this road trip to Henderson then Grand Canyon and back to Long Beach. I may start another post. Thank you.

There are a bunch of companies that offer smal group tours at the Grand Canyon. I recall seeing them drive up to many of the lookout points along the rim trail in big open air jeeps.
You can get to all of those same points walking, or by shuttle bus, but the guides can give you a narrative about the history or geology. I don't think they can drive to all areas of the rim that the shuttle buses will take you, so it might be just the part from Bright Angel eastwards. I don't recall what those co's names were, and don't know where they are based out of.

We stay in the park, and use a combination of free park shuttle and walking to get around. Often shuttle one way to start the day, then walk back.

In Monument valley, we have taken one of the tours from the VC parking lot with a Navajo guide. You can also self drive there. Gouldings which is across from the entrance also have some tours, all must be led by a Navajo guide as this is a Navajo park.
