Need Arcadia/Tampa/Port Charlotte advice!!
Hi there,
I need to travel to Arcadia, Florida for work in January, and I was wondering if anyone could tell me where I should stay in a hotel? (Are Tampa and Port Charlotte close?) I assume those cities would offer more accomodations than Arcadia. Can you also advise as to which airport would be the best to fly into? Thanks so much in advance!

Port Charlotte and Punta Gorda are your closest areas, but they are still feeling the aftermath of the hurricanes and temporary housing, even motels is a real minimum in those areas.
Sarasota and Bradenton are close, and both offer lots of accomodations. Figure about a 45 minute drive to either.
I don't know where you're coming from unless your name indicates you're coming from Hawaii. Ft. Myers (RSW) is the nearest large airport, Sarasota is a fairly substantial one, and then Tampa which is the largest, but furthest away.

Check for hotels/motels carefully in the Port Charlotte area....my brother came down with his family and stayed the night...First some of the hotels they knew of weren't even there anymore after the storm and the ones they did find were all booked up with roofers and workers from all over. They got 1 room but checked out the next day after a sleepless night of "women of the night" coming and going...Anyway- Tampa is way too far IMO, I would go South..

Well, I haven't been through there in years, but that is the closest place, now that I look at a map...I guess I would just research all your options first and find the best/closest for you.

Hi Hawaiimoon,
Ilive about equal distance between Ft. Myers and Tampa. In regard to which airport to use, I would check the rates for your flight into both Ft. Myers and Tampa. If money is no object, than Sarasota is the closest with Ft. Myers being the next best. Sarasota has very limited service.
Good luck!!

Hi
As others have said you may have a difficult time finding lodging in Arcadia or Port Charlotte. It might help if someone where you'll be working with could advise on places to stay.
As to airports - Sarasota is coming up in the world - getting a lot more flights from the northeast AirTran is now flying into Sarasota from BWI/Baltimore non-stop and fairly cheap and also another airline USA3000(??) may be flying in from Philly to sarasota.
It's not far from Sarasota to Arcadia.
