Need advice ASAP!

Hello fellow forum users I am new to this site and I need some advice. My husband and I have been longing for a vacation for awhile now, and will have the money and most importantly the time to do so in two weeks. I happened to run across a new travel site that I have never heard of that is offering a last minute trip to London very inexpensively. My first question is has anyone heard of or ever used www.ah-hatravel.com? If so any horror stories and anything I should be mindful of? The site seems to be on the up and up, but thought I would do some additional research on it. I've priced this same trip on some of the major sites and they just don't compare.

The site offers several hotels and seeing as I'm in the States I am looking at one of the more popular hotel chains here in the US. Does anyone have any experience with the Crowne Plaza Hotel at the London Airport? I usually stay at Crowne Plaza hotels where ever I travel and I've yet to be disappointed but with the selection of hotels offered I wouldn't want to make a subpar decision. Any help with these two questions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

You might try posting this on the Europe forum, you will probably get better responses. I wouldn't think staying at the airport would be too convenient, that may be why the price is so reasonable. You will be doing alot of travel in and out of the city.

Have a great time whevever you decide to go.

The name
ah-ha travel doesn't give me any confidence, sorry.

Are you planning to stay at the Crowne Plaza airport hotel the whole trip while you're in London?
DON'T DO IT.

It would be very inconvenient to stay at a Hotel near any of the London airports as they are not near London city. You should go onto the London tourist information site for hotels. You should try to choose one either in the city or on an underground line. Rates are pretty good at the moment even for the central hotels.

"Need advice ASAP!"

advice #1: repost w/ a title that tells folks what you want. Nearly EVERY thread on fodors is looking for advice of some sort or other.

advice #2: Post it on the Europe forum

advice #3: I'd avoid booking w/ any website that no one has heard of/used.

advice #4: for a visit to London, you do not want to stay at a Heathrow area hotel. LHR is 20 miles west of London and not at all convenient for touring. You'd lose much more in back and forth travel than you could save staying there.

No, you don't stay near an airport. No, you shouldn't advert slimy web-sites, backhanded or otherwise.

Nicole, You need to post on the Europe forum. And it helps if you put a little bit more into your first posting on the boards. This reads (pardon my suspicion) very much like a thinly veiled advertisement for the website (which is not allowed here).

If your question is sincere, no I would not stay at any airport hotel is sight-seeing in central London was the itinerary.

Isn't London Airport on a tube line, and not too inconveniently located?

It depends on how you define inconvenient. From HR to Victoria Station using the tube is one hour and one change. Use HRow Express to Padddington is quicker (about 15 mins) but much more expensive ($35/person) and you still need the tube from there. IMO, HRow is not convenient.

If we're talking about Heathrow Airport, yes, it is on the end of Piccadilly line.

However, it still takes over 1 hour at least to get into central London.

1) Shuttle or bus from hotel into Airport bus station (can take 20-30 mins)
2) Walk from bus station to tube station (10 mins)
3) Tube into Central London (45 mins)

Recommend staying in London. Knightsbridge would be my choice of locations. Do not stay at the airport
that isn't why you are going.
Fares to London will be lower in winter and it is a great time to go.
I think with some research you can
put together a great little trip cost effectively.
Use the trains and buses to get around
and eat where the locals do.

yk, my point is that we're not talking about Heathrow, the OP referred specifically to the "London Airport". That's the in-town, smaller airport.

NewbE: nope - there is a London City Airport - but no just London Airport. And the OP is definitely not talking about London City since she mentioned the Crowne Plaza hotel . . . . .

There is no "London Airport"

There is a London City Airport though. It is connected to central London via the DLR.

Perhaps the OP is referring to the London City Airport AND the Crowne Plaza hotel in Docklands near the City Airport. But I'm willing to bet that she is referring to LHR and the Crowne Plaza LHR hotel.
