Keep in mind it rains there a lot--but, with that in mind, the fish market is really interesting early in the morning. They bring huge tuna and other fish I have never seen before, and men bid on them. If you have a car, I would strongly suggest visiting the tropical botanical garden that is north of Hilo--it is absolutely wonderful--we spent half a day there, so much to see. The one south of Hilo is not nearly as good. But the macadamia nut place is interesting for a short visit.

So far we have only checked out the Farmers market in Hilo, which was just OK (i.e. not as nice as the one outside
Hanalei,
Kauai). However on our next visit to the Big Island, we hope to be fortunate enough to check out Akaka Falls and the Pacific Tsunami Musuem
