Need a second opinion?
I am eagerly looking forward to a long delayed trip to the Sea World in San Diego. I have heard volumes about it, read about it and seen some awesome pictures and videos. But I have never been there. I love marine life and this trip sure is gonna be a dream come true for me. I have been hunting for some good place to stay, somewhere near the Sea World. Mark, a friend of mine suggested California Suites Hotel, which he says is located nearby and is good value for money. I checked out their web site www.californiasuiteshotel.com/. So far it looks good. But a second opinion is always welcome. Can someone tell me if it is a good budget hotel?

The reviews on tripadvisor look good -

There are places much closer to SeaWorld that might be better for a visit. CA Suites is in a neighborhood, not much around of interest and probably 8 miles from the beach.
Mission Valley would even be closer than CA Suites. It's not far from Sea World, if you have a car. Also, there's more variety near Mission Valley as far as eating, you can go to Presidio Park in the morning or evening for a lovely view. Clairmont is flat and frankly boring. Check out bidding on Priceline. Start with www.biddingfortravel.com.
Even staying near Sports Arena, there a hotel near Liberty Station that would be a bit more convientent.
Enjoy San Diego. I can't comment on a specific hotel, I live here but I know my neighborhoods. Have fun at Sea World.

For fun, I clicked on the photos of the hotel, "nightlife" etc. A friend of mine lives in Clairmont.
There's "nightlife" in that area, there's a Walmart and a fairly decent Thai restaurant. The photos are just areas around San Diego not around that area. To properly depict the area they need photos of ranch homes and strip malls.
And I can't imagine that any hotel in that area would have a pool quite like that.

I pretty much agree with LSky. Mission Valley would be a better location for you. Closer to Sea World, close to lots of restaurants, and not far from downtown where there are clubs.
However, if you do stay at this hotel, it is right next to the freeway and only a couple of exits north is La Jolla Village Drive. There are many more restaurants there, and a shopping mall (University Towne Center).
I don't mean to insult you, but I'm just a little bit suspicious about this post.
