Need a restaurant for my anniversary dinner in Nantucket
Going to Nantucket in 2 weeks to celebrate my anniversary - need suggestions for a special dinner - something nice without being too stuffy. We like most foods. Thanks in advance.

"Toppers" at the Wauwinett would certainly qualify as nice....you can take a boat launch from the harbor, and enjoy about an hour boatride both to and from (at sunset)...expensive, but not overly "stuffy" i.e. no jackets required...

My favorite Nantucket Restaurants are American Seasons (for the food), and the Summer House.
For an anniversary dinner I would go to The Summer House, go before it gets dark for drinks and take in the incredible view, I love 'Sconset and the Summer house, for me it's the quintessential island experience. It's the antithesis of stuffy.
Toppers is really good, very upscale and the launch from town is pretty special, but it's VERY expensive (think $500 if you like good wine), and it just doesn't have the charm of The Summer House. I dream about the Summer House....

Nina's right. The Wauwinet is wonderful but very expensive. For your occasion, the Summer House would be great. Usually wonderful food (chefs move and it isn't open yet this year)in a very, very fine setting overlooking the ocean.
The old Chanticleer would have been perfect. A new restaurant will be opening in their space in Sconset this summer, but even though the owners are very experienced, there is no telling about whether there will be growing pains. I might walk over here from the Summer House to have a glass of brandy after dinner and check it out.
The other place that would be super is the Galley at the Cliffside Beach Club. Elegant food and wonderful sunsets from the beach in town.

Ackislander...what I would give to be sitting in front of the fireplace at the Summer House with a glass of wine this very minute..
I'm so glad they're putting a restaurant in the old Chanticleer, it looked so sad all deserted and overgrown, I hope the new restaurant lives up to it's setting.
Have you lived in Ack your whole life? I hate you...
