Need a New Orleans hotel with big parking spaces

Help - my husband and I are helping his sister move down from Connecticut to Texas and are planning on visiting places along the way. We will be driving a car and an extremely large U-Haul truck which is posing a problem when I look for hotels along the way.

One of our stopovers will be in New Orleans, where I haven't been in ten years. My memory is that we don't really want to be driving a Uhaul through the French Quarter. I'm prepared to call every hotel to ask about their parking situation, but I thought I would post here first to see if someone had any recommednations and maybe remember what the parking situation was like at their hotel. I'd love to stay in the French Quarter, but I'm thinking that it might be easier to just pick a generic hotel right off I-10. If you have any ideas as to other places to stay with outside parking, or have any insight on driving a Uhaul into New Orleans, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks for any help and suggestions in advance.

You're absolutely right about not wanting to drive a U-Haul through the Quarter! The streets are narrow and pedestrians can be, well, clueless. You may want to try Le Richelieu Hotel on Chartres, however. It's a nice smaller hotel just off of Esplanade and offers free parking in a lot behind the hotel. No idea if they will take a large truck but if they do it would be an easy drive down Esplanade or Elysian Fields to get to the hotel. You could avoid the most crowded parts of the Quarter!

You could always try some of the hotels in Metairie just off the highway - or at the airport - or maybe even some in the CBD around the Dome (they probably charge for parking, though.) Most of them have big parking lots. If you have your heart set on the Quarter, I'd take John's advice.

Thanks for the advice! I will check out Le Richelieu and some of the other suggested areas.
