Need a car?
We are planning on flying or taking a train from East Hampton (we are from N. CAlif.) and wondered if we needed to rent a car while in D.C.? 2 kids, 2 adults...we might even drive if it's not too far which would make this question a mut point but thought I'd ask anyway.
Thanks all...

I live in the area; IMO you can get to many of the "tourist sites" without a car depending on where you decide to stay.
The probalem is that parking near some of those "sites" can be a real bear; then again, some such as Mt. Vernon almost require a car to reach.
What are your plans?

Where will you be staying in DC?. Most of the DC sights are easily accessible by public trans, so you will not need a car for the city. You can rent a car for a day and drive to MT Vernon and /or Annapolis. There are car rental locations within the district or at the airport.

Since the parking and the traffic can be atrocious, if you have to drive to get somewhere I would suggest you use flexcar for the day and when you're done with the car you would just return it from the metro station you recieved it from...here's the site...hope this helps!
