Naples area-help please!
I have never been to Naples before but there are so many condos for rent there that we are considering it for a 3 month rental next year. We are newly retired. Is there an a specific area we should look at or avoid? We like to bike and do little daytrips to beach towns, have lunch and snoop around. We like to walk on the beach but don't need to be on it (in fact probably couldn't afford it anyways!). So we'd like to have easy access to do stuff but not be in a really busy area. How big is Naples? I've heard horror stories about the traffic - is it similar to say, Sarasota? We visited there for a day this winter while we were staying in St. Petersburg.

There aren't any areas you should avoid. I think it depends on your price point more than anything. The closer to the water you are, the more expensive the condo's will be.
I prefer the old Naples area and would reccomend it based on your criterea.

I just found this post. Hope you're still looking here.
I agree that Olde Naples sounds like what you want, but apartment rentals are limited there.
I've lived in Naples for almost 30 years and I don't have a clue where Hammock Bay is!
The traffic nightmares are for those who stay miles out from Naples, particularly along the Ft. Myers, Estero, Bonita, Naples corridor of US 41 and then try to go back and forth between them. Within the "city", traffic is pretty minimal.

Patrick - the condo is listed as Marco Shores/Hammock Bay. I think the street is Mainsail. We are also lookiing at a condo in Summerlin Village in Fort Myers. I'd love some input on both these places if anyone knows. Thanks.
