Nantucket for 15th Wedding Anniversary...Need Help.
Hello Fodorites,
We are in the process of planning a 15th wedding anniversary trip for one week last week of July, this year. Thinking of Nantucket. Debating between SummerHouse cottage, or one of their new inn properties Fair Street or India Street or White Elephant Cottage. We want privacy, luxury, view and charm (not too much, huh?). The posts on the board are all quite old and the most recent Rant on Fodors for the Summer House is dreadful. Anyone stayed at these properties? Insight appreciated. Thnx.

Gayle,
Not sure about the new properties, but you won't really have much privacy at the Summer House cottages in Sconset. They are small, very close together, and see lots of pedestrian and car traffic.
My personal opinion is that the Summer House in general is overrated and overpriced.
For privacy, luxury, view and charm, I would look at the Wauwinet. Perhaps $100-$150 more per night than the Summer House, but a much better experience.

Thanks, I've heard the same but heard that Wauwinet is an older (greyish) stuffy crowd and not that well located, thought the website looks nice. Now I'm thinking we could rent a cottage and have sent a few emails to realtors, but it appears that I am too late for the nicer and smaller properties.

The Wauwinet crowd is older and more affluent probably than your typical Summer House or Inn/B & B customer. I'm 40 and wouldn't feel uncomfortable there.
It is kind of out there, but it is definitely private and quiet. You can hop a shuttle into town (maybe 20 minutes). As for luxury, view, and charm, I don't think anything else on the island compares.
It is next to impossible to get a cottage rental for one week in peak season, much less a nice one, expecially this late.
