Hi-
my wife and I are thinking of going to Nantucket late October. We were there a couple of years ago and loved it. We stayed at the Roberts House which was great but I'm looking to try a different place. Any opinion on the following places would be greatly appreciated. I've narrowed it down to the Carlisle House, Veranda House, Shelburne Inn or Seven Sea Street Inn. Thanks a bunch!

My husband and I are regulars at Seven Sea Street. We like it for the location, the roof deck and the friendly inn keepers. Ask for one of the second floor rooms in the main house. We've also stayed at the Carlisle House, but it was a while ago. It was also okay, but not memorable. If you haven't already, check out www.nantucket.net to find out more about the inns and their availability. Late October is a good time to visit - it's less crowded and the weather is still great.

The Sea Street Inn is the only place we have ever stayed in Nantucket, using it on a couple of occasions while our house was being remodeled.
Book on the second floor of the Sea Street Inn (actually, whatever the top floor is) because with the post and beam construction of the building, your ceiling is the floor of the room above, and someone walking around over your head on bare planks can be very noisy.
That being said, the owners are nice, and it is well located, both for the ferry and for town.
Late October is often a good time to be here. It is pretty quiet
