N of SF - Revised trip advise please!
I have made significant changes to our trip plans. Comments and suggestions please! We are a senior couple. One uses a rolling walker. He can walk a good distance. Because he is using a walker, trails that would be jogging stroller friendly work well. He can handle curbs fine. A few step with a railing are ok. Wheelchair accessible trails are great but not required. Lots of stairs make for a miserable day.
We have booked flights. We will arrive SFO on Wednesday Sept 24th 7:22pm. We plan to pick up a rental car and head north to Petaluma area for 3 nights. 1 day to explore Pt Reyes National Seashore, second day head to Sonoma State Historical Park, adding Petaluma Adobe if we have time.
September 27th head to Mendocino. Stops at Fort Ross SHP to see the Fort, and Van Damme SP to see the Pygmy Forest on the way to Mendocino. 3 nights/2 days in Mendocino. 1 day for Mendocino Coast Botancal Gardens. 1 day for Hendy Woods SP (our dose of coastal redwoods), adding Van Damme SP to that day if we don't have time on our drive to Mendocino. If we have extra time on either day, we will add in a walk on the Medocino Headlands Trail or add a stop at MacKerricher SP, or Russian Gulch SP.
September 30 drive Mendocino to Walnut Creek area to meet up with our niece. Possibly stop by Anderson Marsh SHP or ???? suggestions please. No wineries. We're too old to drink and drive.
We will drive from Walnut Creek to Bishop, hopefully stopping at Calveras Big Trees SP. After a Bishop wedding, we head to San Diego for a few weeks with family.
Does this sound like it should work? Reducing the number of stops and amount of driving sounds good to me.

Just two initial comments -- The Walnut Creek > Bishop day will be a beast. WC > Calaveras BTSP > Bishop is a minimum seven hours car time plus stops. A lot of it on twisty turny Hwy 4. Would be a real drag for the driver and anyone stuck in the back seat. Calaveras Big Trees doesn't add much drive time at all but it would be probably a 2 hour stop. If you can squeeze in an overnight in Murphys or Angels Camp it would be a lot easier - plus would give you time to visit Columbia State Historic Park.
Petaluma is also a good base for Healdsburg, Calistoga, etc.
