N.C. Furniture Discounts?

We wanted to plan a trip to NC to buy furniture. Can anyone recommend a store they have done business with and been satisfied? I can't seem to find any on the net. I'd like to call ahead and get prices..too. Thank you in advance!!!!

Your best bet is in the Hickory area. Their chamber can give you lots of information. There's a furniture mart on the main drag that has about 7 acres on several floors. I can't recall the name. I don't know if you've shopped in NC for furniture before. You need to be aware that while you can get good buys, you will also spend a lot on shipping. Many only have floor samples and you have to order what you want. Although you won't be taxed, the shipping (calculated by each 50 pounds) can be expensive. My advice, if you are a reasonable drive away, is to plan to rent a U Haul and find a place that will sell from the floor. I found a place near my home that offers the same deal as the Carolina dealers, plus delivery is free. Be sure and inquire if they have a local furniture store (that they have arrangements with) that you can contact should your purchases come with any damage or need servicing.

We had very good luck with Furnitureland South in High Point. Make sure you go armed with measurements of all the rooms you are furnishing, and prices at home for the furniture you are looking for. If you are planning to furnish several rooms, the amount you will save will far outweigh the delivery charges. We furnished three rooms, but spend an entire day at Furnitureland, since we were only in the area for a weekend.

I've shopped the Carolina stores on several occassions. I think Hickory has the best selection. Shipping can be costly, so what you save won't be that signigicant unless you need to furnish more than one room. You may have to wait up until 3 months to receive custom orders.
