Don't limit your visit to Mystic - too commercial. Have you ever been on a submarine? Tour the USS Nautilus on the Naval Submarine Base in Groton. It's free and truly interesting. Stroll thestreets of Stonington Village and pass the homes of sea captains from the past. Good restaurants here too - you choose, on the water or in town. If the leaves are changing colors, walk through the Arbortorium of Connecticut College in New London. Of course, Foxwoods casino in Ledyard is an "experience". Their Two Trees Inn is a wonderful place to stay, but you must make reservations well in advance. It's a picturesque sight with an Indian museum. In Mystic, you must go to the Daniel Packer Inn for dinner or at least a drink. A former sea captain's house, now an excellent restaurant. We visit the area often since your son is an officer on a submarine out of Groton.

Mystic, commercial? Yes & no! Come before or after Columbus Day if possible...it's very crowded then.. If you like old historic houses, instead of staying at one of the hotels or motels try a Historic Bed & Breakfast in a close-by town, such as Ledyard, Noank, or Old Mystic. None of which is further than 5 or 6 miles from downtown Mystic and the first is on a farm surrounded by beautifully colored trees at that time of year. Have dinner at "J.P.Daniels, a restored barn. Fabulous food, excellent service, one of the best resturants in the area and not so costly..moderate! Visit Clydes Cider Mill and watch how they made cider in the oldendays, see the "Up-down Saw Mill" in Ledyard and watch them saw the makings of a wide board floor-board. Stroll on "Bluff Point" and watch the sunset. Take a ride to one of the vineyards and sample some local wine. Lots to do and see in the vacinity, write and I'll tell you more.
