We're headed down to Myrtle Beach in early April 2001. Just wondered if it's ever warm enough to swim outdoors (in a heated pool) this time of year. Also - any information on the Sands Resorts would be appreciated.

We've spent many apring breaks in Myrtle Beach in April. I wouldn't count on the weather being warm enough to swim outside, even in a heated pool. Definitely not in the ocean. We always stayed in a condo with an indoor pool, so I can't help you with the Sands

The Caravelle has a covered, heated pool for use all year round. I've stayed there before. The units on the beach have small kitchens and a dinette set, and I think would suit your needs. I've never stayed at the Sands.

We're going to MB in April. Last time we were there in April it was warm enough to swim in the ocean and in the outdoor heated pool. We booked thru the Sands Resorts for this year. We will be staying at their one and only resort that is not a high-rise (Ocean Forest Villas)but you are allowed to use facilities (such as indoor pools) at the other Sands Resorts. We liked the look of Ocean Forest because it's NOT a big hotel. Hope this helps. Have fun!

We go to Myrtle Beach every April to escape from the snow here. I think it depends on where you are from as to whether you think it is too cold. We have swum the ocean and outdoor pools, while others were bundled up. Maybe they were locals. We thought it was so very warm See ya on the beach!!

Well, for those of you who live far away and might not know, Myrtle Beach had a tornado yesterday afternoon. It was in the business district, right near the Pavillion, and several people were injured, although none seriously. Actually it was a waterspout that came inland and became a tornado. Pretty big deal on the local channels and all through NC also. I mean, it was a *real* tornado, not just a little whirlwind thing.

I might add, however, that this is very unusual!

News accounts in Charlotte NC say that only two hotels were damaged enough to be unhabitable; however, you should definitely call your hotel/rental service if you are booked for the next several weeks.

By all accounts, the damage was fairly localized to the Pavillion and an area south of there. Not a devastating tornado apparently. I would think the cleanup and windows replacement will not take long.
