Myrtle Beach has one nice place called Kingston Plantation. I stayed there last year. Myrtle Beach is very crowded in the summer. I would say they are both family oriented.

I've visited both places numerous times.
Hilton Head would be my first choice. It is somewhat more refined and less commercial than Myrtle Beach.
I hear the Westin is nice, but if you're considering a condo, try Sea Cloisters www.seacloisters.com. It is right on the beach with a great family environment and you can walk to the Westin from there.

Have fun!

If you want a nice beach with LOTS to do, go with Myrtle Beach. Pavilion Amusement Park, Nascar Speedpark, Wild Water Park, Alligator Adventure, Ripley's Aquarium, IMAX theatre, Alabama Theatre, Dixie Stampede, Mideveal Times, Celebrity Theatre, Lord of the Dance, should I go on?

If you are looking for refinement, go to Charleston beaches (Isle of Palms)
