Myrtle Beach

I posted that question almost exactly a year ago. Noone responded, but we did stay there for a week. Though the staff was very friendly and the rooms were kept very clean, we wouldn't stay there again, for the following reasons. The rooms were quite small. The "kitchenettes" were actually only a sink, small stove and refrigerator right in the bedroom. The thing that we didn't like the most, however, was that the balconies were shared. There was no privacy. We like to arise in the morning and sit outside watching the ocean with a cup of coffee, but other tenants had to walk right past us when leaving their rooms. For this reason, we couldn't open our drapes without sacrificing our privacy, for others could look directly into our room. The rates were very good, and the location in Myrtle Beach was fine, but we prefer a larger suite with a semi-detached kitchenette, and definitely a private deck.

You might also want to try Forest Dunes. This is our favorite place to stay. Website: www.forestdunes.com

Thanks Rudy! I found your post....and we had just booked a few nights at the same hotel for next weekend.....hmmmmmm
We opted for Charleston House...as we do not mind walking on (or to) the beach, and we do not really plan on spending much time in our room. Hopefully it will be okay as.."basically just a place to sleep"

If you've never been to MB be prepared for strip malls, neon, traffic and tackiness. That being said, I just booked a condo at Kingston Plantation for the third year in a row. It is a gated, large and very nice resort with a great waterpark on-site for the kids, so you never have to leave the resort. This is why we go. My mom, my sister, and our kids go so the kids can have a blast in the waterpark while we read or go in the warm ocean. Our husbands stay home. Kingston is in a better area of North Myrtle Beach, it's great for kids, lots of inexpensive restaurants and some good back to school shopping. Plus, you can't beat the prices for a nice, oceanfront resort. Janey, if you have kids this is the place. If you're a AAA member they have some great discounts too.
