We are attending a wedding in Atlanta in August and the hotels we have been requested to chose from are Marriott Courtyard Buckhead, AmeriSuites Buckhead, or Grand Hyatt Buckhead. Has anyone had any experience with these hotels and can recommend one over another? Or should we just go against the grain and book our own room somewhere else? All the prices are generally the same with the Amerisuites coming in on the lower end.

All very generous choices. I would definitely recommend going with the Hyatt. We stay there when in town w/no kids, and across the street at Embassy Suites with. If you need MARTA, it's a short walk from the hotel (about 3 blocks).

The Hyatt is a little nicer than the Courtyard, and definitely better than the AS. It used to be the Nikko 3 or 4 years ago. The Courtyard is not too old (2 years or so). Embassy Suites is a good deal if you like the 2 room set up. The standard rooms at the Hyatt are typical Hyatt type rooms. Lots of great food and shopping within blocks.

Another thumbs up on Grand Hyatt. Convenient location.

Definitely the Hyatt....we have stayed at a couple AmeriSuites (1 in Atlanta) and two elsewhere and have been disappointed every time!

Just found out my husband's friends are all booking the Amerisuites so of course he wants to stay there too. I am a little bit of a hotel snob and I am terrified.

The AmeriSuites in Topeka, KS was a bad experience all around. The one we stayed at in Atlanta was in Vinnings not Buckhead and it wasn't horrible....but, for example, if your choosing between the Embassy Suites breakfast and the AmeriSuites breakfast, tell your hubby not much beats the Embassy's breakfast. The AmeriSuites breakfast is definitely "continental" and for the extra $20 it is worth it to get your omelets cooked to order at the Embassy!

I know Embassy Suites wasn't on your list of choices (sorry) but I was trying to give you a comparison, if you a choosy about your hotels, just tell hubby you will be much happier at the Hyatt!

I would love to stay across the street at the Embassy Suites but unfortunately, we don't have the "special rate" we are getting at the other 3. The Embassy Suites will cost us $120US MORE per night than the Amerisuites. The other problem is that we are from Canada and after the conversion of the dollar, that means a DIFFERENCE of $165CDN per night for 5 nights! Yikes!!!

Good luck with the Hyatt...just tell hubby to remember if your happy, more than likely he's happy, if your not happy, then more than likely he is miserable! That dollar conversion will kill you......enjoy your stay but bring cool clothing it will be hot and sticky! Buckhead is a really neat part of Atlanta.....Enjoy!

We have stayed at a number of Amerisuites and have been happy with them. They aren't the Ritz but they are mostly new and clean and have all you need. If the whole crowd was staying there I would too or you will miss out on some of the fun!

All three of the hotels are within a short walk of each other. While the Amerisuites is not the height of luxury you needn't be terrified-it's perfectly okay and the location is fine.

I am so happy to receive these last two posts as we have now received word that all our friends (spread around the country) have booked at the Amerisuites. Since some have not seen each other since university, everyone is very excited and, I, just being the wife of one of the 'old gang', would not have looked too good if I insisted on the Hyatt. Well, for anyone interested in getting a good deal in Buckhead, I am recommending the Amerisuites. It turned out to be the best choice we could have made. When we arrived, there was a "managers special" being advertised at $30.00 below our confirmed rate. When it was mentioned, our rate was automatically changed. Throughout the week we met many of the other wedding guests who were also staying there and all had the same opinion.

All the normal wedding snafus happening and was it the Hyatt who jumped in (happily, I might add) and helped out?? No way - it was the extraordinary staff at the Amerisuites Buckhead! Anything you needed was at your door within the hour. There drove us everywhere they could and arranged for taxis when they couldn't. Although arranging for taxis seems like something they should be able to do easily, I have to say I found the lack of taxis in Atlanta unbelievable!!! If you try to wave thm down on the street, they wave back and keep on driving! Anyway, I would not hesitate to book an Amerisuites again and I would most definitely do it if returning to Buckhead. I just wish I had gotten the names of a few of the staff in particular becuase they were so outstanding, they deserve to be singled out for recognition.

I would strongly encourage you to write to the manager at the Amerisuites with your comments.
The kind of service you describe is becoming quite rare these days, even at over $400 per night, and in non-hotel travel service industry as well.
Please take a moment to pat those deserving souls on the back. It may well encourage them to continue to 'fight upstream' and provide exemplary service, benefitting others and justly rewarding them.

I'm so glad you had a good experience at The Amerisuites. I live very near there and will feel even better suggesting it to others as a good, well-located place to stay. You're right Atlanta is not a good town for taxis-the city has made some efforts to try and improve the situation, but sadly there's not been much improvement that I can see.
