I have taken exchange students to SF for many years. Been there myself over twenty times. I would recommend walking the bridge, at least half way from Vista Point. My "good weather" favorite thing is to buy a picnic lunch and head for the Marin Headlands for a fantastic view of the bridge, bay and city. Any tour guide bus driver or policeman can tell you how to get there from Vista Point...just the other side of the highway returning to SF across the GG bridge. Also, walking the Pacific Ocean is really nice especially near sunset. There are whole sand dollars everywhere. If you are there on Sunday, go to the Glide Methodist Church near Union Square. All races Gospel choir of almost 75. A great way to start off a Sunday. Services at 9 and 11. My opinion is to go to the 9 and be there by 8:30AM. www.glide.org If you can't get Alcatraz tickets, or just want to see it from a distance, take a tour on the Blue and Gold fleet. Coupons are in most weekly tourist magazines there. Goes under the GG bridge and behind Alcatraz.

I would like to say, "no" there's nothing more of interest in San Francisco and so that's why there are thousands of tourists going there each year. Do some research on your own before you post here. Or, at least, do a search on this forum. Please, we are so tired of the same questions day after day.

hey, peevish... take a chill pill. we are not all sick of the same questions and i really don't need you to speak on all of our behalf. things change... places change... this question asked a year ago would get a very different response than if asked today. lighten up and enjoy the conversation... or do feel free to log off.

some more stuff... to add to my post above...

17) A new addition. GO TO THE BEACH! Yes, San Francisco now has a beach which for the most part is warm enough to actually enjoy - the beach that is, not the water. Crissy Field, http://www.crissyfield.org/ boasts some of the most breathtaking vistas as well as soft sand and wetlands filled with interesting birds. Take your kite and, "go fly it!"

18) A Saturday. Enjoy breakfast or a snack at Ferry Plaza Farmers Market. San Francisco's Farmers Market boasts some of the most interesting and tasty produce. Enjoy breakfast or a snack from 8AM - 1:30PM http://www.seasonalchef.com/index.htm Embarcadero at Green Street. Buy gifts for folks back home - local honey, olive oil and such make great gifts.

19) A Sunday. Have a picnic while enjoying an outdoor, FREE concert at Stern Grove http://www.sterngrove.org Take a blanket and layers of clothing, as you will be sitting on the grass and the fog can roll in or out several times during the show.

It has been 5 years since I was there but my favorites were: Beach Blanket Babylon, going sailing on the bay, cable cars, Coit Tower and neat walk down from there through peoples gardens. We also traveled to Muir Woods and to Napa Valley all enjoyable.

Hi, if you feel energetic, hire a bike at the wharf area (around $38.00) ride around san francsico bay, across golden gate bridge to sauselito (i think i spelt that wrong) and after lunch in a cafe and a look at the shops, take the ferry back to the wharf area (9 mile bike trip) we have just come back from sfo and did this - it was the best fun and the views are fantastic

I always smile when I see the Transamerica pyramid pictured on TV or in print. If you're downtown and have the time, go to the observation site on the 27th (?) floor. What a beautiful building!

I'd recommend going to Alcatraz at night -- the Alcatraz Night Tour operates Thursday-Monday nights year-round. There are fantastic sunsets in SF in October and the best place to see them is from Alcatraz. The tour is timed so that you go over during the daylight, are there for sunset, and when you leave it's usually dark and the lights of the city are on. Really beautiful. Buy tickets a week ahead of time for it, though. There are special tours and programs offered only in the evenings and the whole thing is a fundraiser for preservation projects on Alcatraz.

The public library also offers free walking tours all over the city that are very interesting and informative. It's called "CityGuides." Not sure what the website is, but if you punch that in along with San Francisco, you should come up with it.

Angel Island is one of my favorite "secret" local places. You take a ferry over there from Pier 41 or Sausalito or Tiburon. Great hiking, bike rentals, fantastic Bay area views, and lots of interesting history as well.
