Musicals in NYC
I'm a little out of the loop lately--what are some of the "HOT" musicals on Broadway these days? Will they still be around in the summer? Is it impossible to get tickets to Hairspray? I'm planning a trip for June--when should we think about tickets?
ALSO, what's the best way to see tapings of TV shows in NYC? (Letterman, Regis, Conan, etc.) I know you can send in for tickets or stand in the "stand-by" line, but are there any secrets to getting them another way?

The hottest musical is Hairspray. You better try for tickets immediately. It may already be too late for June. Obviously, you have a better chance for a midweek performance.
Depending on your tastes, other new musicals include La Boheme (a trendy version of the opera) and Movin' Out (an all-dance musical, using Billy Joel's music).

Just to note, the "trendy" in La Boheme is in the staging by Baz Luhrman, the director of "Moulin Rouge" (he's done a bunch of operas in Australia); it's still the same opera, sung in Italian with English titles.

Bernadette Peters is opening in GYPSY soon and is booking through August. -- tickets are pretty hot.
Antonio Bandaras and an "all star" cast is doing a revival of the "offbeat" NINE in a limited run through June. Not everyone's cup of tea, but should be a hot ticket, if you can even still get them.

For Howard, whose email address I lost-got the tix to Long Days Journey with Brian Denehey (sp?). Long Journey, long show! 3 hours! 2nd row ctr on 6/21. starts at 7 pm & not 8. How many people won't notice that and will arrive late? through amex gold. This will be a biggie.
