Music/Bars in New Orleans

My husband and I are going to New Orleans for the first time at the end of May. We are 27 and are wondering about good places to hear music and go out at night. We enjoy both loud/fun places as well as the more mellow places with good atmosphere, like wine bars. We've been refered to Pat O'Brien's. Any other suggestions??? Thank you!

Also should have mentioned Patout's Cajun cabin for authentic cajun music and a mandatory romantic drink, a ti ponch, at Napolean House. There are some decent music and dance clubs on the shores of Lake Ponchetrain too. Sometimes the best thing is to have a couple drinks, walk the streets of the Quarter (not just Rue Bourbon) and let your ears give directions. Laissez les bon temps roulez!

We just got back last week. Snug Harbor also Cafe Brasil in Faubourg Marigny was excellent. Also if you can try Le Chat Noir in the business district...it's a cabaret, piano bar. The Shim Sham club in the Quarter was good too if you're into alternative music, it's a bit of a dump but what alt music club isn't. The Storyville District in the quarter was fun too

We just now got in the door from New Orleans (past 5 days) and wouldn't you think that I would have committed some names of the clubs to memory? We really did enjoy ourselves at Patout's Cajun Restaurant and bar. The bands were excellent. I like Maison
Bourbon which is Dixieland and all that, and the club across the Street from that club was good too. R&B. It's really hard to find any "bad"\
clubs in New Orleans. I really loved the Zydeco sound though. I like 'em all. Already missing the music and place.
