Mrtyle Beach--where to eat?
My husband, myself and our two daughters (ages 6 and 8) will be in Myrtle Beach for one week in June. We are looking for restaurant recommendations from anyone who has been there recently. We are open to leaving the tourist area. Thanks

My husband and I visit Myrtle Beach every November. A friend recommended Villa Romano. It is a northern Italian restaurant that is very good. It is located on Highway 17 North. You may want to check out the menu first to make sure that your daughters can find something that they will like. I highly recommend the Veal Absolute. A family owns the restaurant and if you are lucky, Mama Lucia will come out and dance for you. Great place. In November they have early bird specials (20% off if you arrive before 6:00 p.m. Monday - Thursday.) Don't know if that is the case in June. I don't think you will be sorry. It is not a tourist type restaurant. I would never have known about the place if my friend had not discovered it. Happy eating.

I have 3 children and we went often in Myrtle Beach during summer. Every one likes to go to K&W Kafeteria. You have to arrive early because in season you can have to wait 15 to 30 minutes. The food is excellent and it will cost you about 30 $ for the whole family including desert. There is 2 locations on Highway 17, one in North Myrtle Beach and the other near the airport.

I have been to Myrtle Beach at least once a year since birth. There are many great places--however, many of them are "touristy" rip-offs. You will find MANY all-you-can-eat buffets for 19.99, etc. Don't do it! Most people cannot eat that much food--especially small children. K&W (mentioned above) is a great place, however, there is not a lot of creativity...but, it is a great value.
If you have a car, I strongly recommend traveling north to a small town on the NC/SC border called Calabash which is where all the fishing/shrimp boats come in. All of the restaurants in this area are excellent. Most of the food is seafood (and the Carolinas generally do a fried seafood). However, you can find it broiled, boiled, steamed, fried, baked, etc.
A lot of peoplee do the "breakfast" thing at the beach because they skip lunch (they are on the beach). There are many little pancake houses. (I've been to one of the many Harry's Pancake House and found it to be cheap and good.)
There are also the shows that serve dinner that seem to provide better entertainment than food, but nevertheless good. Dixie Stampede or the Medieval Times have been recommended to me. You may want to call for reservations/tickets. June is the busy time and they fill up quickly.
Feel free to email me if you have further questions.
