Moving to Atlanta in the fall '02

Looking to move to Atlanta in the fall. Was wondering if anyone could help me with some good neighborhoods to live in. My girlfriend will be going to Emory and I will be working downtown.

Thanks for any help you can give.

Virginia Highlands (neat, yuppie area?,college bar, cute shops, restaurants, quaint, pretty)

Emory

Druid Hills (Expensive, this is the neighborhood right by Emory Village)

Toco Hills (Also very near emory, less expensive, many houses look like built in 70s, ranch brick homes)

Apartments near Emory that may be good for you and your girl: Post Oak, Post Briarcliff

On the emory university website thier is a list for off campus housing... often people that have been renting to the emory community for years post here... it is a secret...http://www.emory.edu/RES_LIFE/OFFCAMP/

Amanda's got "inside the beltline" pretty well covered!! If you're looking for the 'burbs, Sandy Springs is crowded and expensive, but Roswell area is really nice, and most of Alpharetta is nice, too. It would be a commute however, and, well, you've heard the horror stories....

Also, Candler Park/Little Five Points and Decatur. Both are near the neighborhoods amanda mentioned, near Emory and an easy hop to downtown.

For intown living, you should check out the up and coming areas around Little Five Points, including Candler Park (getting very pricey, though), Grant Park, Ormewood Park, and East Atlanta Village. East Atlanta Village is one of the few remaining neighborhoods where young couples can actually afford to buy a house in Atlanta, and there are several bars/restaurants/clubs there, as well. Still a bit rough around the edges, but hey, it's big city livin.
