Bay Tower Room
My favorite was always Cafe Budapest, but alas, it is no more.

Gosh, after many years of searching for same, I wish I had lots of recommenations. It's difficult to find romantic dining in Boston if what you have in mind is a quiet sort of place where the ambience, food and service are all quite elegant and refined (but not overly so). Even the best restaurants in Boston tend to be way too loud (and your romantic dining experience is often ruined by a large party nearby with everyone hollering at each other) and service tends to be very uneven. That said, our best experieces have been at Maison Robert (the cafe downstairs is less pricey but nearly as nice as the formal dining upstairs), Julien at Le Meridien (but go later, when the after work crowd has left the nearby bar), The Bay Tower Room, and best of the best (and always superbly reliable) would be L'Espalier.

It's not a traditional romantic dinner but on days that they have music at the Gardner museum a lunch at the cafe can be incredibly romantic- the "villa", the art, the music....

L'Espalier is very romantic.

I would also recommend Aujourd'hui at the Four Seasons and the Oak Room at the Copley Plaza as well as Bay Tower.

Maurizio in the North End.
Enjoy!!
