Monterry to San Fran

My family of 4 will be staying in Monterrey for three days (work trip)and then we're planning on driving down to SF. Here's my question: We have Mon through Fri before we leave. Alcatraz and Giants game on thurs and Fri already planned. Should we also plan on staying in SF Tues and Wed or go somewhere else before we finish in SF?

Depending on your interests, I think you could easily spend the entire week in San Francisco. You could take a trip to Muir Woods for part of a day. Depending on the ages of your family, you could also go to wine country for a day trip also.

Monterrey is in Mexico. I suggest having a passport to cross the border.

Monterey (one R) is near San Francisco.

I would spend the full time in SF. Plenty to do, and lots of posts here to search on including family activities.

FainaAgain,

If you're one of those people who feel the need to correct everyone's slight mistakes, please know that you are not amusing, only annoying. People you know probably dislike you for this. Hope this helps.

When one sees mistakes, there's no harm in pointing it out. Seeing that you don't post here very frequently Mrmarky, IMO you're being overly sensitive in this case.

I agree with the OP. No problem pointing out a mistake (as a side item) but how about starting your response with some suggestions. Since she's from SF I expect more than a flippant remark.

Mr Marky - If you have a car, you may want to take a day trip up north to see the redwoods or over to the coast and relax around Dillon beach or Bodega Bay.

But of course SF is one of the most interesting cities in the world and plenty to see.

Have a great trip!

Well, take this, mrmarky: neither Monterey nor Monterrey is in any sense "up" from SF, which makes driving "down to SF" impossible. Faina was being a little snarky, but really, how are we supposed to guess which city you're driving to SF from? No need to be so snippy, you're the one asking for advice, and Faina's correction will better enable you to search the Internet, armed with the correct spelling of your destination.

As fo advice: Stay in SF for the duration, there's more than enough to occupy you M-F, espcecially since you will already have explored Monterey amd vicinity.

Actually, the OP started a post in March which was very similar to this one. I would of just ttt that post, and added on my additional questions. Sometimes we frequent posters can lose our patience, LOL.

mrmarky: For an excellent list of possible things to do, try typing in the Search Box above:

"Stu Dudley San Francisco Must Do's" and you'll find an extensive list that Stu took the trouble to compile for one questioner. His post would be sometime in 2006. It will list more places than any one trip could encompass and should give you lots of ideas of where to go and what to do.

You'll forgive the way some posts may come across. It's hard to convey humor or anything else with two dimensional words.

I know Faina personally and she's a very sweet lady with a great sense of humor. She was probably just seeking clarification on your city of origin.

Every summer, we who live in the Bay Area will get sometimes 2 or 3 questions similar to yours every day and almost invariably the questions are answered in detail and with no malice. Half the time, some sort of clarification is needed: "Family travelling to Bay Area, Need Help Urgently" immediately brings up questions like: How many in your family? What are the ages of the children? etc. etc. Fodorites are just trying to be helpful and on target in their responses.

Since you wrote "Monterry" with two "r"s and leaving out the second "e", the obvious question was which city: Monterrey, Mexico or Monterey, California? IMHO, it's a natural question to come up, since a lot of times the person asking tends to leave out vital information.

I hope you'll find Stu's long list to be useful to you.

Have a great trip!

The SF and Alcatraz (and Giants) really tells us Monterey, CA. But you're very right easytraveler, Faina didn't mean any thing negative by her response.
