Monterrey CA hotels & restaurants

My husband and I are taking a trip to Sf and down the coast to Monterry/Carmel area in September. We will be spending 2 1/2 days in the Carmel area before going to SF for 2 1/2 days. I was planning on staying in Monterrey and doing day trips to the surrounding areas from there. We like nice hotels near restaurants and activities and also would like a great view. Any recommendations for hotels and restaurants?

When you hit SF, go to a bookstore and buy a Zagat for the area. That will help you a lot on restaurants.

DEFINITELY try The Little Swiss in downtown Carmel (right near the library) for breakfast, brunch, or lunch. Good value, delicious food. A place popular with locals. (We used to live in Monterey.)

For a special Carmel meal consider the Highlands Inn's main dining room -- at sunset. It's a snort drive south from downtown Carmel.

In Carmel area we like the Carriage House Inn (very small B&b style) right in town, but again the Highlands Inn (where I've stayed) and Tickle Pink Inn (where friends stay) have lovely views, fireplaces, etc. down the road.
