Monet & Venice - Brooklyn Museum

Hi All: My wife and I are making plans to see the Monet & Venice exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum. I'm an old Jersey boy, and have been to Manhattan dozens of times.

But I am clueless about Brooklyn. Asking for advice: Stay in a hotel in Brooklyn? and if so, any recommendations. Or stay in Manhattan?

We're taking about December or January, so either way it will be cold. We will be taking cabs to get around.

Looking forward to opinions and recommendations.

We took a subway from Manhattan to the Brooklyn Museum and it was very easy. There is a subway stop right by the museum's entrance.

The Brooklyn Museum is, IMO, underrated, so my advice is to make sure you have enough time to explore its permanent exhibits if they appeal to you. (Maybe 3 or 4 hours all together.) And the Brooklyn Botanic Garden might not be a priority in December or January, but it is an amazing place, so you might give some thought to exploring it, too. I've visited both several times on one-day visits from Manhattan using public transportation. Its very easy to reach from more central parts of NYC, so I think whether to stay nearby is really a personal choice based on what else you want to see / explore, how often you are willing to change locations, lodging prices, etc. You certainly wouldn't NEED to relocate just to see the museum and you certainly wouldn't need to take what I suspect would be a very pricey taxi.

I hope that helps!

Very easy to get to the Brooklyn Museum by subway as again the subway stop is just outside the museum on Eastern Parkway. You can look at the museum website and it will tell you the subway info which I believe will be either the #2 or #3 trains.

Thank you all for your response. I was afraid to say to much, so I said too little.

My wife and I are at the age of being "old codgers". My wife uses a cane, and the subway is out of the question.

We are going to spend, at most, two nights in NY. We are going solely for the Monet Exhibit -- but knowing us, we DO want to look at some of the permanent exhibits at the Brooklyn Museum. And maybe have some good pizza or?

I know we can stay in downtown NYC. Soho, WTC area, etc. My question, is, should we? Or what Brooklyn hotels may make sense/

Appreciate your input..

Steve and Mary Margaret

Well, it really depends on your preferences ... but FWIW, if I were going to Brooklyn specifically to see the Monet exhibit at the Brooklyn Museum, if I was planning at most 2 nights in the area, and if my mobility was limited, then I'd look at hotels in Brooklyn and I'd use booking.com to research my options (whether you book through that site or not). Unfortunately, I don't have specific options to present, but hope you will find my input useful nonetheless.

Since I live in NY can’t recommend any specific hotel however I know that there are several boutique hotels in downtown Brooklyn and in Williamsburg and Park Slope. For several years pre- retirement I used to attend meetings and events at the Brooklyn Marriott which would be a quick cab ride away.

Thanks to all who replied. I will look into hotels in Downtown Brooklyn. Until a few days ago, I did not realize there was such a thing as "Downtown Brooklyn" LOL
