Good explanation! Thanks. We will see the Goblins next time if we are ever back that way.

One more thing. I should have mentioned that when we decided on Capitol Reef as a stop, I did not expect much - I was wrong. It is small, but strikingly beautiful.

I'm glad you enjoyed Capitol Reef! It's one of those places that you need to spend some time in to really appreciate. There are some amazing hikes there! And the colors, especially in fall.

Capitol Reef
there are three sections:
1) Center where the park visitor center is located and its multitude of fruit tree originally planted by Mormons who settled there. Each orchard is named after one of those pioneers.
2) South section where many arches are discovered (upper Muley). Accessed via Burr Road from Boulder. Also, superb hiking opportunities (Lower Muley). Rare black petrified wood is hidden in a canyon.
3) Cathedral Valley - the absolute jewel of the park located northeast of center park. This is a full day trip; suggest two days. High Clearance and a very reliable vehicle is mandatory.

90% visit only # 1.
alas - or maybe not.
Vaga.

bas, thanks for posting. Your pics brought back a lot of memories from our trip to Utah when we hit all 5 parks. The NPs are so unique and so beautiful. Helps to be a hiker though.

Thank you dcd and nhamilton, I am happy the TR brought back good memories. That is why I write them, mostly for myself to read later on to bring back my own memories, and with the hope others may glean helpful ideas to enhance their own trips.

I took another look at those photos after reading your posts - it has been awhile - and have once again been awestruck by the beauty of these places. That was one of our best trips ever.
