My mom and I are going to Minneapolis for the weekend - any suggestions for something fun to do besides the malls or a spa?

When will you be going and what area are you staying in?

Do you like museums? The Museum of Fine Arts and the Walker Art Center are both wonderful art museums in Mpls.

We haven't really picked a place to stay - could be as far out as Maple Grove or possibly even downtown.

We are not the museum types.

Oh, don't stay in Maple Grove. They have more franchise restaurants per capita and per square inch than any place I've ever seen. You could be anywhere and it would be the same as being in Maple Grove. Stay downtown, stay in Uptown or in the Grand Ave. area of St. Paul, but don't stay in Maple Grove. Even staying by the Mall is better. So if you don't like museums, go over to Uptown and take a walk, skate or bike around Lake Calhoun and Lake of the Isles. Shop in Uptown, at 50th and France, or on Grand Ave. See a play at the Guthrie or at any of many many other live theatres in the area. Go ice skating at the old Depot. Check out Minnehaha park and the falls. Enjoy.
