Milford Plaza Hotel

I'll be staying in The Milford Plaza Hotel for 2 nights in August and I would just like to know peoples views on it are as I've heard mixed - some very good and some not so good!

What made you choose the Milford Plaza? There are lots of hotels that offer weekend rates of less than $150, is the Milford much less? The location is good for the theatre but 8th Avenue is not the nicest location. The hotel is not one of my favorites based on reputation, and what I've seen of the lobby.

Do a search for Milford Plaza. There is nothing new to add. It has been the subject of many threads, the most recent just a couple of weeks ago.

The only thing to add to those older posts is that the area now is definitely much, much better safety-wise than it was a couple years ago, when it could be downright dangerous. Now you shouldn't have a problem. There's always lots of people traffic at the hotel; alot of foreign tourists and airline people. It's close to the theatres, there's plenty of good restaurants in the area and you couldn't ask for better subway access. I think there's something like 10 different subway lines you can catch at the stop on 8th b/w 42 and 43. I'm sure there are better hotels around, but there are alot worse ones too.

I stayed in Manhattan for two weeks. The first week I stayed at the Milford Plaza. The location of the Milford Plaza is ideal. It is right around the corner from all the Broadway shows and a subway stop. All the airline crew stay there too. There are always tourists and police walking around, so I always felt safe. I walked along 8th Avenue alone at 11:00 at night (I'm a female). I felt totally safe. The only thing I didn't care for was that the room was very, very tiny. The beds were only twin size. If you are traveling for comfort, I would pick a different place. If you are traveling to be in the middle of everything, choose Milford. The following week I stayed at the Broadway Hotel on 32nd Street/Broadway. The room was tremendous and it had a beautiful view of the Empire State Bldg. but I didn't like the neighborhood. I would rather have stayed at the Milford Plaza again. Good luck!

I didn't read the previous thread, but I found the Milford to be very noisy, crowded, and almost frenzied. Of course this was in December. The room itself was nothing spectacular, and we could hear sirens wailing all night long.

BUT, the location is excellent, as everyone has pointed out. All depends on what is important to you. I felt very safe, except for when there was a fire alarm, and everyone had to evacuate. Good thing we were headed out anyway!

The next time we went, we stayed at the Wyndham suites across from the Plaza and it was much much quieter. Still a good location, and I liked it much better.
