I sent this to our Denver kids with all the lovely blue sky picture and DS wrote back--cannot even see the mountains because of the air quality!! He had commented on that over the wekend when he was going on a bike ride up near Golden. Sad. Hope it will clear over.

Yeah, the air quality has been awful. We drove back from Denver on Tuesday after an appointment and couldn't see the mountains at all. It was so bad that I even wore a mask in the car.

I'm beginning to feel like I live in Indonesia again, where we had two seasons - wet and smoky.

We've had our windows closed and our HEPA air filters running full tilt for over a week. Supposed to clear up a bit today and tomorrow though.

Oh darn, if I knew you were going to the Botanic Gardens, I would've recommended an ice cream stop at Liks. I don't want to say how many years I've been in the Denver area, because that would give away my age, but I enjoyed your report. I used to go downtown frequently, but haven't really been there this summer and last. I laughed at your comment about the margs at Rio because I also found them underwhelming and have been told I'm wrong lol. One of the last times I ate downtown, there was a 3% back of the house surcharge. I hope they don't start adding surcharges on top of surcharges. I might have to try the Dew Drop Inn after your review. Denver does a nice job with flowers and loved your pics. I'm glad you had a nice time.

wtm003 - I'm thinking I need to make a return visit for the ice cream alone

Nice TR, thank you. Our son attended UCD, we stayed at the Hyatt and Westin downtown. Loved Union Station, nice meals at Bistro Vendome and Sam’s for breakfast. Really enjoyed spending time at the Tattered Cover with their numerous quiet nooks for reading, so unlike the Barnes and Nobles of the world.

Forgot to add sausages at Biker Jim’s, breakfast at Snooze, D’Corazon and Sushi Den. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality at Den, apparently they fly in a lot of their fish directly from the Tsukiji Market in Tokyo.

A Grand Finale of photos Mel, thanks for the great TR.

We spent three nights in Denver this week, our first visit since 2019. We joined the Denver Museum of Nature and Science and went to the Stonehenge exhibit. Recommended except the numerous TV monitors, whose volume overlapped, which made it hard for us curmudgeons to concentrate on any one item. Nonetheless a fascinating exhibit.

The Botanic Gardens at Chatfield Farms had been on the list for a while, and right now the lavender beds are in bloom. Very nice but we'd like to return on a day that wasn't so hot (95F) and without wildfire smoke (135 AQI).

We found two new (for us) coffee shops, Little Owl in Lodo and Aviano in Cherry Creek. Sadly our longstanding favorite, The Market on Larimer Square, closed their doors permanently in 2020. No more Spring Fling cake! But I did find this:

We did dine in True Food, our current favorite.

Thanks again Mel.

Nelson - and thank you for those coffee shops! Would love to visit the lavender fields, but could do without the heat (and smoke).

LIttle Owl was my son’s second home when he wasn’t attending shows at the Marquis. Between studies of course.

Your son has excellent taste, we thought it was an outstanding cuppa and we did have it in ceramic cups.

At Aviano, also decent coffee, we ordered one chocolate almond biscotti, and the nice man said, "Here, have a second one!". Another

The Tattered Cover Bookstore in LODO - just west of Union Station -- closed some time ago. I think there is a small store just off Colfax near the state capitol building.
