Midtown Hotel in Boston
Has anyone stayed here? I'm expecting budget so I won't be surprised at lack of amenities but I don't want unkept or dirty. The reason I'm thinking of this hotel is price (under $100), two beds, airport shuttle (not a big deal..could take a cab) but it offers one onsite, free parking space (I'll have a friend coming in from VT for a visit). It's advertised for location as Copley Square and the address is 200 Huntington. On the map it seems to be very near Symphony Hall. I'd try a bidding site but I really do need two beds. Any comments?

Its so near Symphony Hall you can reach out and almost touch it. It's across the street for the Mother Church and it's beautiful fountains and gardens..It is right next to Mass. Avenue and Northeastern University is closeby as is the Museum of Fine Arts.. Can't tell you about the hotel, but it is downtown and convenient to the Prudential Center, Newbury Street and not far from Copley Square. If the price is right..go for it..

It's more of a motor inn than a hotel, but perfectly nice, especially for the price. Rooms are very large and housekeeping is meticulous. Be advised that it's popular with tour groups (particularly those full of teenagers). Sometimes, but not always, this means folks visiting up and down the hallways or talking as if they're the only ones on the planet while going through the hallways. I think it's the only place in Boston offering complimentary parking - a savings of $28/night or more a night. The Symphony T-stop is RIGHT outside the entrance, which is obviously quite handy. It's just over 1/2 mile from Copley Square. $100/night is a terrific rate, even for the Midtown where rates usually start at $129 even in mid-winter. You may want to try www.hotwire.com, although, you won't know the property until you've paid. However, the hotels that come up most often are the Tremont and new Doubletree (which are in the theatre district) for Boston/Beacon Hill and the Back Bay Hilton (which is a fabulous hotel) for Back Bay. Rates, of course, will depend upon your dates. With most bidding sites and other discount online booking sites (such as hoteldiscount.com), you are NOT guaranteed specific number or size of beds. But, most folks have reported that they have had no problem being accomodated when calling the hotel once they've booked.

I stayed there a couple of years ago, but for what it's worth it's a perfectly acceptable place. It was clean, in a good location, and the free parking is a big plus. Like Donna said, it's more like a motor inn than a hotel - very low rise. You'll be happy there.

Thanks to all of you. I'll book today. This is just what we need for this trip. I'd rather go upscale but not this time. My teen daughter and I(coming from CA) are meeting her male (not boyfriend...he's at another college) friend who is a freshman at Harvard. The reason he'll be staying with us is that he must be out of his dorm the day we arrive. After a few days in Boston, I'm taking them (via train) to spend a few days in NYC before flying back to San Francisco. So, Donna thanks for the info on the teen noise. I plan on bringing my earplugs, sleeping mask, sleeping pills (just kidding) etc. Thanks again.
