Middle Kentucky

Any suggestions on places to visit within a 2 hour drive of Lexington would be welcome.
We are thinking of Berea, Shaker Village, and Louisville. History, horses, and shopping are a few of our interests.
Thank you for your help!

Berea would be a good place esp if you're into crafts.

Frankfort, the state capital, is very intersting ans has lots of history. The new Kentucky History Museum opened about a year ago.

Head down toward the Bardstown area...lots of things to do

For horses, the Kentucky Horse Park is excellent. Allow a full day there if you want to do the whole tour. Also, a trip to Churchill Downs and the KY Derby Museum would be a good suggestion.

A little further away, the Stephen Foster home would be a good stop, too.

As a native Louisvillian, I'd say skip Frankfort. There's not much to see there. Start with the Ky Horse Park, it's awesome. When are you visiting? Louisville has a new waterfront and we have several festivals and activities there. The KY Derby museum is quite interesting- if you have any baseball fans, you might enjoy the Louisville Slugger Museum in downtown Louisville. I, too, love Bardstown. It's quaint and has lots of charm.

Thanks for the ideas! We'll be in Kentucky July 22 through 29. We're baseball fans as well as horse crazy.
The non-horsey member of our family will love the crafts. Our daughters are 16 and 19 so we're trying to take everyone's interests into account on our vacation.

Berea is a beautiful Kentucky town where the Berea College Campus is in the town square. Be sure to visit the Boone Tavern Hotel. It's quite the place for crafts, to be sure.

If you have some time, take US 25 from Richmond to Berea, you'll see some real roadside highway Americana...as a metter of fact, drive US 25 all the way to Corbin through the small towns...it's a very enjoyable drive!
