Mid-November weekend AWAY from Montreal
My husband and I are celebrating our anniversary and would like to get out of Montreal for a weekend.
It is now mid-November--too early for skiing, too late for fall foliage. My instincts tell me to drive southward!
I was thinking of something as far as Portland, Maine, but I'm up for suggestions.
Can you help me?

This should be an easy answer but yesterday is was a very rainy, dismal November day. Take a look at what kind of events are happening in Portland, Burlington VT, Manchester NH, even Concord NH and Hanover. See if there's a great concert or play you'd like to see. I'd be happy to drive around to all the craft fairs but my husband wouldn't! You might check the calendar of events on Yankee Magazine's website. Maybe visit a winery in VT or NH and shop for local cheeses. There will be story telling events throughout NH on Nov 18. Maybe a spa weekend at the Grand Mountain View in Whitefield NH. Happy Anniversary!

I love Portland Maine and I live outside
Burlington Vermont, but I can tell you that the weather won't be that much different than where you are. Besides, there isn't a more romantic place for an anniversary than Quebec City. I'd check into the Auberge Saint-Antoine . Most Americans would kill for an anniversary there.

Oh boy. There is a really bad joke in there somewhere, but I'm too classy to make it.
Quebec City is small. I can't go there more than once every five years. Besides, I like to go somewhere where I naturally speak the lingua franca.
I am aiming for the areas around and between Manchester and Woodstock, VT, although I just checked the forecast and it is going to be damn cold this weekend.

Here's a crazy idea if you want warm... Go to www.jetblue.com. See if you can get a cheap flight from Burlington to somewhere in Florida for the weekend!
