Miami to Keywest
Planning to go on Miami trip in April with my 10-yr daughter and 2-yr son. Here is my initial plan:
Flight 3:00 pm at Miami, spend whole night at South Beach. Stay @ Catelina
Next day: Parrot Jungle & Alligator Farm. Dinner at Versailles.Stay at Doubletree Hotel Coconut Grove.
Third Day: Heading south to Key Largo. Snorkeling and Dolphin Adventure. Stay at Holiday Inn Kay Largo.
Fourth Day: Heading south to Key West. Take glass bottom boat ride and sunset cruise.Stay at Sheraton Keywest.
Fifth Day: Visit Hemmingway House. Back to Miami. Dinner @ Devito's to celebrate daughter's 10 yr birthday. Stay at airport hotel to catch up early morning airplant back to NY.
Need suggestions on first day's dinner and Key Largo's dinner. Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure what days your trip falls on but it would be pretty pointless to drive to Key West for literally hours. You will likely spend more time getting there & back, than actual waking hours there. Why not fly out of EYW rather than to trek all the back to Miami, which could be anywhere from 4-6 hours. I'll skip the comments on the 'Dolphin Adventure' but please do your research. Feel free to start on this forum. Not to mention you are driving & changing locales every day. My 3 year old would revolt over this itin. big time (as would I). SB is not a great place for kids, I'll leave it at that. Might want to pack some dramamine as well. Waaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyy too much, in too little time.

For a meal in Key Largo, I really liek Island Grill . . .
http://www.keysislandgrill.com/
Its at the north end of Islamorda - maybe a 20 minute drive.
Also I disagree about South Beach not being for kids. My kids love hanging around on Lincoln Road for an early dinner. There are many restaurants - Van Dykes is Ok for general fare. Spris is good for pizza and salads. The Frieze has amazing homemade ice cream that is always a treat.
Staying the night also puts you a quick 10 minute ride to Jungle Island (Parrot Jungle's new name.)
It is a long drive from Key West to Miami, the mileage might not seem that way, but it is generally a 2 lane highway (one south and one north) for most of the ride. Any congestion or one accident can set you back many an hour!!

Just keep in mind that the drive back to Miami will take about 3.5 hours. I just drove from KW to Naples last week, and it took 2.5 hours to get from KW to Key Largo, then another 45 mins to get to US 41. I also stayed at the Sheraton - It's a nice enough place. It IS possible...but wow....with all the traffic in Miami, and trips to Key West and Key Largo, and then an early morning flight out of zooville MIA.....do you have a vacation waiting after this vacation?
You would be far better off consolidating hotels to minimize check in check out stress. You have to also remember that many hotels will not even let you check in until after 3:00pm due to late check outs.
You could easily do Key Largo from Miami. As a suggestion, why don't you stay in South Beach and travel from there and do the Key West trip first day. You can connect from MIA to Key West, stay there and then rent a car for the rest of the trip dropping it at MIA the day you leave.
MIA is very easy access and time from SOBE in the morning because you are going against traffic. SOBE to MIA early morning is 30 min at most + 30 min to return car and take shuttle.
All in all, your itinerary is stressing me out just thinking about it, but perhaps you thrive on this sort of thing!
