Miami Thanksgiving
I'm arranging a mini family reunion next Thanksgiving and I thought Miami would be a good meeting place. But will it be warm enough for the kids to swim? I read the temperatures are in the 70's that time of year but I was looking to hear from someone. Thanks.

I live in Naples, due West of Miami and about the same climate, usually a little warmer in winter. We have had our Thanksgiving turkey out by the pool in balmy weather, inside in air conditioning because it was too hot to eat outside, and with the heat on as we had a frost that morning. Sorry I can't help you, the weather is very undependable that time of year!!

The weather might be undependable on the west coast of Florida at that time of year, but I would be absolutely shocked if late November temperatures in Southeast Florida were unswimmable. We usually don't see real cold fronts down here until late December, and the water doesn't get "cold" (or at least, what we call cold) until January or February.

Lived in Miami forever, can't ever recall a cold Thanksgiving. Even if it gets down to the 60's at night, it will definitely be warm enough to swim during the day. And I'm sure you most likely being from somewhere north, you would have a higher tolerance if we were to get hit with a cold front with highs in the 70's. Try the Doral Golf Resort and Spa in Miami, it's very self contained with an excellent pool, kids will love it.

For a family reunion, might I suggest that you look a little further north, more towards the Ft Lauderdale area, rather than Miami? I moved to Miami a year ago from Chicago and find it very family-unfriendly. The weather will be the same and chances are better that your kids won't be frolicking on the beach alongside, well, I won't go there. Also, if you are looking to eat out for Thanksgiving dinner, you will find that many of the restaurants in the Miami are are either Latin or seafood or trendy or some combination thereof, and the further north you go the more "traditional" Thanksgiving fare you will find.

yes Erika there are lots of Cubans, Jews, and gay people on Miami Beach, so if you can't tolerate us, maybe you should go to somewhere whiter and more "Amerikan" ....some poor folks need to get out a lillte more and stop being so afraid of folks that aren't just like them...that's what travel is all about, isn't it??? we welcome families on Miami Beach because we are ALL FROM families. Some of our "families" don't look or sound like erika's.
And you can swim well into november.
