I've never stayed there, but I've certainly walked past it a lot of times. It's positioned as an upscale property among all the old Deco-era hotels, and from the outside looks really cool. I've never heard anything bad about it, but you may want to investigate the user ratings at travelocity.com-- they may have comments there. The location is good-- just north of the worst madness of Ocean Drive.

Does Hotel Ocean have a swimming pool?? If you are going to South Beach (especially this time of year---the weather is very hot)...you definitely want to stay in a place that has a pool. Most of the larger hotels (near 21st Street and up) have pools. I would not stay there if it did not have a pool.

A good friend of mine travels to Miami on business a lot and stays at the Hotel Ocean. He highly recommends it.
I was in South Beach this weekend and only walked by. It looked very nice.
No pool, which was a requirement for me so we did not stay there. We stayed at The National, which we loved. Amazing pool and the pool area is great, better than all the others we looked at.
