Miami/Ft Lauderdale to Orlando

I need to spend part of a week's vacation in Miami (for fun) and part in Orlando (for a wedding). Any suggestions for the best way to get between the two places? Miami-Orlando RT airfare is ridiculous---$300. I thought I could take the train but Amtrak has very limited schedules between the 2 cities. How long is the drive? How far is the Ft Lauderdale airport from Miami (I ask because southwest has decent fares between orlando and ft lauderdale)? All help is appreciated.

To drive from Miami to Ft. L airport is less than 1 hour. To drive to Orlando is about 4-5 hours. Still not bad, but if you compare the cost of the rental car to the SW flight, the latter is probably a better deal.

I almost always fly into Ft. Lauderdale instead of Miami -- airfares are usually much better and cabfare into town isn't noticably any better/worse. If you can't "open jaws" (fly into one city and home from the other) and you are going to have to do a RT between the two, you might get a better deal (flight and car) by flying into Orlando, picking up a car for a week, driving down to Miami, then back to Orlando for the wedding and to come home from there. Try www.biztravel.com to see what kind of arrangements you can come up with. I've had excellent luck using them over the past year and a half or so.
