Memorial Day Week End in NYC
Would like to visit the Tenement Museum, but which part. My husband loves to build furniture. Where do I start.
Visited Orchard and Delancey 15 years ago with friends. Lot of shopping. Is it still this way. Where would you eat? Want to do Chinatown,Little Italy, SOHO(what is here)
I have read so many things about walking over the Brooklyn Bridge and having lunch or ice cream at the Brookly Ice Cream Factor. Should we take subway and which one. And walk back? What is at South Seaport,is it worth it? So many questions. We have not purchased any play tickets yet. We have seen several so we will take our chance at the booth for 1/2 price. We are staying at the Edison. How can I take water taxi to Brooklyn.
We been to Statue of Liberty. thanks for your help.jj

Have you read the replies to your two recent posts on Orchard and Delancey? Most posters who replied to your posts feel shopping there is not what it used to be. But if you want to see a sample of what is available, there is a part of the Tenement Museum website that lists alot of the shopping oppurtunities in that area of the Lower East Side. Also, there is an area of their website that has a listing of a good deal of the options for dining in that area. You should get on the Tenement Museum website and order tickets now, as they are filling up their tour for that weekend. I tried yesterday to get tickets and couldn't get the tour I wanted at any time on Saturday of Memorial Day weekend- so make up your mind and move now. If you do a search for "tenement" on this forum you will get good comments on the different tours available- that's what I did. WWW.TENEMENT.ORG

At the South Street Seaport there a shops, restaurants & last I was there in March-some tall ships that looked awesome that I think you can board& tour. There is also a half price theater tickets booth there that is usually much less crowded than the one at Times Square. The other benefit is you can buy matinee tickets down there the day before the show (ie buy Fri for Sat or Sat for Sun). In Times Square it's same day only. For evening performance also same day only both places. You need cash! They don't take credit cards.
SOHO has art galleries, shops & restaurants. It was a manufacturing area that fell into disuse when manufacturing moved out of the city. In the 60-s-70s artists discovered it as a place to get big space at low prices. It's morphed into a trendy looking shopping/dining area. More to see IMO than Little Italy which is basically a small area with restaurants.
The water taxi makes 6 stops I think. One is at Chelsea Piers & one is where the Cricle Line stops at 42 st. Look at nywatertaxi.com for info.
