Yes Raffetto's is where they make the pasta to the size requested. Closed Sundays and Mondays.

I googled Raffetto's and I presume it sells fresh pasta but is not a restaurant is that correct?

Hmm, if it's closed Sunday and Monday then I would have to buy pasta on Saturday if staying in NY for a weekend. Would it need to be refrigerated over the weekend?

santa, The Jane sounds cool. Did yk stay there one time or another Fodorite?
The rate is great for a single room but for a party of 3 there are no rooms and 'double' rooms cost more than double. I guess this is because of the ensuite option and extra space.

Yes, Nai. I keep forgetting the name. Good, but it's no Xunta! I was so sad that they couldn't make a go of it in their second (Bklyn) location.

Santa, that sounds like a perfect day! Amy's Bread and Fat Witch - mmm, the best of the best. Also try the ice cream at Ronnybrook! Were the bike rentals free as part of the hotel? Or were they in the new city system?

Corner Bistro has awesome burgers. Always comes up a finalist in the neverending burger wars.

A French restaurant in Chinatown? Do tell! Was it good?

all that people talk about is that unassisted double play. Must have been something to see

Aww, thanks for playing along.

Parigot is the french restaurant we went to saturday before the play. It's not peak stylish but it was nice, open windows to the street, good views of some iron front buildings, and had an accordion player (no monkey). I'm now back on the megabus.

This morning I took out one of the free hotel bikes and biked down to Lafayette and Canal, woke up DS#2, and we walked over to south street seaport museum to look around, again. But we didn't have time to look at much of anything because I started to worry about biking back and getting to the megabus stop in time. So we had a fruit slurpee, looked at some boats, and then walked back to his apt, and I biked back to the hotel. Then I got on the ACE line all by myself and took it to 42nd street and the megabus waiting line on 41st between 8th and 9th.

Thank you all for your suggestions. I think you locals are all very smart, and probably stylish too. And next time I'll make a bigger dent in your excellent lists of restaurant recommendations.

Here are Adu's recommendations, in his words, from another thread for places in chelsea:

In the chelsea mkt, Amy's Bread makes exceptional items, some unuusal. Fat Witch only makes brownies and if you only make one thing they better be damn good. Ronnybrook makes their own ice cream that is especially tasty and creamy. There is a gelati place that others like better than me.

The two things I hate about Chelsea Market is there are a few cable networks that have their offices and studios there and the kids who work there think they are elevated life forms. And there are tourist buses so the market gets crowded easily.

On 23rd Street in the lobby of the Chelsea Hotel is a Donut Plant which I think makes the best donuts in town.

Other very good restuarants include The Cookshop, Tia Pol, Red Cat, Spotted Pig, and Mary's Fish Camp. Also there is La Bergamonte that makes exceptional French pastries.

here are addresses
nai 174 1st ave (this is in the east village but I thought I'd throw this in to confuse you. Adu likes this tapas place)
the cookshop 156 10th ave
tia pol 205 10th
red cat 227 10th
spotted pig 314 w 11th
mary's fish camp 64 charles st
